What Is Air Balancing? How Can You Make It Work for Your Home?

Have you been dealing with hot spots or cold spots in your rental property during the last 12 months? If so, one solution to your problem could be to start practicing “air balancing” in your home.

What is air balancing? It’s the practice of adjusting and testing the airflow in your home so that you have the right amount of air in each room regardless if you have a single-story or two-story home.

How to Get Started with Air Balancing

To get started with air balancing if you live in a two-story home, you should partially close the registers on the second floor of your home while leaving them fully open on the ground floor. This process should be reversed during the winter months so that you are able to keep your upstairs heated effectively.

The same process applies if you live in a single-story home, all you have to do is partially close the registers in rooms of your home that stay cool during the summer months while keeping the registers open in rooms of your home that get the most heat.

Besides Air Balancing, Follow These Tips

Some of the other things that you should consider doing to help eliminate cold and hot spots in your home during the year include: cleaning or replacing your HVAC air filter every 90 days, installing window coverings on all of your windows, and making sure that there are no obstructions blocking the registers in each room of your home.
